Display paper briefing, week 1 of August

A short sweep of 15 papers touching the display industry from among the 12 major journals (published online 2026-08-03 to 08-09). The lead paper is covered as a separate in-depth article.

From Nature Photonics to ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, PEER sweeps 12 high-impact interdisciplinary journals each week and introduces briefly only those papers touching the display industry. The reference date for inclusion is the first online publication date (2026-08-03 to 08-09).

This week’s lead paper is covered in depth → Using display pixels as illumination

The other 14

1. A pure-red perovskite LED held by halogen bonding

Advanced Materials · 08.04 · Xin Zhang, University of Science and Technology Beijing · University of Oxford

3. A transparent electrode made from a correlated metal

Adv. Functional Materials · 08.07 · Jonathan Alaria, University of Liverpool · Pilkington · OA

A p-type correlated-metal transparent electrode raising the transparent conductor figure of merit (Haacke FoM) to twice the previous best.

4. Gold film one atom thick, on a 6-inch wafer

Advanced Science · 08.04 · Valentyn Volkov, XPANCEO (UAE) · OA

5. Recycling the energy QLEDs used to throw away

Small · 08.05 · Ting Zhang, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering

A TADF sensitizing layer gives a FRET efficiency of 77.29%, achieving a QLED EQE of 20.21% and a fivefold lifetime improvement.

6. Two additives holding perovskite LED efficiency

Small · 08.05 · Yong Zhang, Harbin Institute of Technology

7. Blue, uniquely weak, turned around by redesigning the HTL

Small · 08.03 · Shufen Chen, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Luminance up 2.9 times and EQE up 3.7 times: introducing a small molecule into the hole transport layer eases the chronic bottleneck of blue perovskite LEDs.

8. An OLED electrode that stretches without breaking

Small · 08.06 · Wen-Yong Lai, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications

A liquid metal (Ag/EGaIn) cathode gives an OLED that emits uniformly even stretched 80%.
